Sheep Outnumber People: The Faroe Islands are home to about 70,000 sheep, which significantly outnumber the approximately 50,000 residents.
Unique Language: Faroese, the local language, is one of the smallest of the Germanic languages and has its roots in Old Norse. It’s still widely spoken, despite the islands’ small population.
No Forests: The Faroe Islands have almost no natural forests. The treeless landscape is due to the combination of its harsh weather and grazing animals.
Rugged Landscape: The Faroe Islands consist of 18 volcanic islands, creating a dramatic landscape with steep cliffs and numerous waterfalls.
Birdwatcher’s Paradise: The islands are home to millions of seabirds, including puffins, kittiwakes, and guillemots, making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts.
Climate: Despite being so far north, the islands have a relatively mild climate due to the Gulf Stream, which keeps temperatures above freezing in winter.
